David Carrick has worked as a private investigator since 1984. In fact, investigative work is in his genetic makeup. His father, Otis B. Carrick, was one of the original investigators in the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, which was formed in 1946 to investigate war crimes and to conduct counterintelligence. David trained as a researcher and an investigator with The Shepherd Company in Los Angeles starting in 1984, moved to Colorado and founded The Shepherd Company, LLC, a Colorado limited liability company, in 2009.
As a land exchange proponent with real estate and land exchanges between public, private and quasi-public entities such as the Department of the Interior, the National Park Service and the Denver Water Department, David discovered many real estate interests and assets that have been abandoned or unclaimed and their rightful owners unknown or missing. The private investigator skills that he acquired in California and Colorado are a natural fit with his real estate expertise. Today, in addition to unclaimed asset investigations, David also provides background investigations for real estate sellers and landlords. He is recognized in Colorado courts as an expert witness having testified in beneficiary and heirship determination hearings.
